Good
Morning dear students;
Have you ever heard of a saying that; “Show
me your friend and I will tell you who you are”?
Here is another one I read from
somewhere; “A mirror reflects a man’s face, but what he is really like is shown by
the kind of friends he chooses”…
Believe me when I tell you that these
statements are not just statements, ….. they explain the importance of friends and
company, and their effect on YOU AND
YOUR DESTINY…!
In summary, a friend is a person you know
well and regard with affection and trust…. Synonyms to friend include; companion,
comrade,
fellow
associate,
acquaintance
etc…
In this write up, I will briefly explain
why it is important to choose THE RIGHT
FRIENDS to hang out with, especially for your success……
You need to understand that we become
part of what we are around;
ATTITUDES
ARE VERY CONTAGIOUS !!!
If you hang around failures, you’ll
definitely end up being a failure yourself BUT on the other hand if you hang
around hardworking and successful students and if you are really serious about
your success, then you will definitely also CATCH success !!!
Your friends will either stretch
your vision... or choke your dreams. It is therefore very important to know the
kinds of friends you hang around…..
Let’s take a brief look at the
characteristics of “bad students” who are definitely bad friends;
x They
are very absent minded during lessons, never participate in class and always
have stories and slangs to distract you with especially during lessons when the
teacher is explaining a point in class.
x They
always pay keen attention only to teachers’ mistakes and laugh out the loudest
when such mistakes are made.
x They
never like to study or do their assignments in time and always want to copy
completed assignments from you or others.
During the sharing of papers or report cards, they already know that
they have failed and always run behind teachers trying to get correct marks for
wrong answers.
x Whenever
you try to bring up study related topics, they either blow it off or bring up a
different discussion which has no relationship to studies, for example, the
kind of meal they’ll eat when they return from school, the new gifts that they
have recently acquired (maybe from their boyfriends) the strategies that they
will use to woe the new beautiful and naïve female students….and so on….
x They
are very proud and popular when it comes to breaking school rules and
regulations and they are regularly out for punishment and often give
provocative nicknames to their teachers especially the discipline masters. I call them Teachers’ inspectors because some of them take up the duty of
commenting about teachers’ looks and comparing items like cell phones shoes,
dressing etc…..
x They
jeer and give nicknames and even bully the hardworking students……
x Generally
they are a nuisance to the school administration, teachers and especially the
learning atmosphere.
These are the “Dream Killers.” Or “success
vampires”… they suck the success out of you and kill your God given
dreams…… I’m very sure that you know some of them (maybe I’ve just described
you..!)
On the other hand, good
students who are focused on their success and their future are the direct
opposite;
ü They
are active and participate in class especially during lessons and are always performing
well during exams…
ü Some
of them are so quiet and focused that some school mates and discipline masters
never know them, except during the award of prizes for excellence! They are always being mocked at by the recalcitrant
students who give them nicknames like John book or Mary book, book worms, nerds etc….
ü Above
all, they are GOD FEARING…!
I call them NOURISHING FRIENDS….. Because
they nourish your dreams and help you to grow positively….
Dear students, in order to succeed, you
need to EVALUATE YOUR FRIENDSHIPS….but
that will only be really accurate if you
have a plan for your success and know what it will take to achieve it…
Now I’m adding another step… try to
include in your plan a list of all your friends and then ask yourself this BIG QUESTION…
ARE
THESE FRIENDS HELPING ME TOWARD SUCCESS OR ARE THEY HOLDING ME BACK?
Are you surrounding yourself with “bad
friends” and spending a lot of time with them in your leisure hours? If
so, I’m going to ask you to think about spending much less time with these
friends — or even no time at all
with them!
If you’re serious about improving
yourself as a human being, then you have to start associating with people who can
take you to the NEXT LEVEL.
As you increase your associations with
nourishing people, you’ll feel better about yourself and have renewed energy to
achieve your goals. You’ll become a more positive, upbeat person — the kind of
person others LOVE TO BE AROUND….!
“I used to think it was important
to associate with positive people and to limit involvement with negative people.
Now, I believe it’s essential if you
want to be a high achiever and a happy individual”.
-Jeff Keller (from
his book…..ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING) -
So,
surround yourself with positive, nourishing people — they’ll lift you up the
ladder of success….
I have a NEW VERY SPECIAL NOURISHING
friend, who has helped me especially this year and has promised to give me all
I will ever need to succeed in anything I could ever dream of and believe that
I can achieve…..
Is that not MARVELOUS…? In fact I can even hear you thinking WAAAOOOOWWWW… and some of you are
asking WHO IS HE OR SHE….?
Hahahahaahaha……..!
My friend is actually a HE.. and if you promise never to lie to
him, then I will give you his name and how you can meet him….
DO
YOU PROMISE? ………..
Ok His name is JESUS CHRIST… and I’m sure you already know where to meet Him… Just
regularly attend a Good Bible based church (His School), read the Bible (His TEXTBOOK) as often as possible,
practice what He has taught you and constantly COMMUNICATE with Him through prayers and He will take you to THE NEXT LEVEL……!
IN
JESUS’ NAME,
AMEN.
