WHAT ARE YOUR SPECIFICATIONS?
(Positively Evaluate and Upgrade
yourself)
By Ndimofor Ndimofor Aretas
Good day;
Thank
you very much for giving me your attention for the coming few minutes. I promise that you won’t regret any second of
it.
For
most of us who are COMPUTER LITERATE, buying a new ICT equipment (especially
computers) is A PIECE OF CAKE…!
Why do I say
this….?
It is simply
because after the salesman has finished FLATTERING me about the AESTHETICS (like
the equipment’s size, shape, colour and how it is “in fashion now”),
I simply “POP
THE BIG QUESTION”… so to speak….. by asking
WHAT ARE ITS SPECIFICAITONS?
Some of you just
like me will agree that most of those trying to sell these equipments are
completely unable to give a satisfactory answer to this question….
Worst of it is
if you start mentioning things like the Processor
clock frequency and the Windows
Experience Index…
The
Windows Experience Index measures the
capability of your computer's hardware and software configuration and expresses
this measurement as a number called a base score.
A
higher base score generally means
that your computer will perform better
and faster than a computer with a lower base score, especially when
performing more advanced and resource-intensive tasks.
The scores currently range from 1.0 to 7.9. (Find out your computer’s Windows Experience
Index)
Generally I know that scores around 3 – 4 are good enough for the
average users(applications like office) and that’s what most of us have, but I
am seriously thinking of getting a computer with a score above 4, to meet up
with my video editing demands….
On
the other hand though, I also realised that selling an up-to-date computer with
all the good specifications to a COMPUTER NOVICE is a NIGHTMARE….!
Why…? Because all they want is A FAST COMPUTER with
HIGH FIGURES accompanying their RAM AND HARD DRIVES…. At one point some can
even insist that a 512 MEGABYTE RAM IS BETTER THAN a MERE 1 GIGABYTE RAM. At this point, if you are not a GURU, then
you might lose that customer…
You must be able to
SHOW them PRACTICALLY how “current and fast” your computer is.
But
it really gets interesting when two COMPUTER GURUS meet… The conversation
sounds something like this….
The first person might say:
“I have an i3or i7 core Pentium machine
running at 2.13 ghz with 4 Gigabytes of RAM, a 500 gigabyte hard disk drive and
a Combo DVD burner. I have installed the
latest 64 bit windows operating system, the latest Microsoft office suit and my
antivirus is up to date…!”
Then the other person who is
already exited will ask some more questions like:
“What is your computer’s Windows Experience Index?
Do you have ports for High definition, SATA and 1394…?”
And it just goes on
and on….
Another point of interest is the
fact that technology is evolving at THE SPEED OF LIGHT and so I feel almost LEFT
OUT OR OUTDATED if I do not have the latest computer in the market…
I am sure most of you feel that way
too…? Even if you CAN’T GET A NEW
COMPUTER, at least you CAN UPGRADE CERTAIN ASPECTS about the old one you have….
My main point of
focus is on the aspect of UPGRADING….
From
my over 10 years of experience with computers, I have come to realize that their
upgrading is DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL to MAN’S ADVANCEMENT in
MATHEMATICS
and TECHNOLOGY….
For example; the advancing mathematical
knowledge gives us faster and faster
processors, while the advancing technology gives us smaller and better computers…..
I have come to
understand that there are FOUR MAJOR
AREAS in our lives which need to be constantly and regularly evaluated
and upgraded. They include;
ü OUR
RELATIONSHIPS.
ü OUR
HEALTH.
ü OUR
FINANCES.
ü AND
OUR CAREERS.
This is how I relate
these areas to my computer…
ü THE
RELATIONSHIPS aspect can be related the Operating
System which gives the GUI
(graphical user interface)… I usually upgrade that in other to enjoy my INTERACTION AND RELATIONSHIP with my
computer…
ü THE HEALTH
aspect is obvious… I am scared and irritated of the idea of my computer being INFECTED BY A COMPUTER VIRUS….. so I
usually UPGRADE my ANTI-VIRUS
ü THE FINANCES
has to do with my HARD DISC CAPACITY
especially for the partition that has my Operating System… it needs a RICH
supply of space in order to operate at its optimum…..
ü THE
CAREER… is the whole computer in general… in order to meet up with the NEW software,
I need to also have an UP-TO-DATE computer…
for example, I can’t think of
running windows 8 or Office 2013 on a Pentium 1 machine with 256 Megabytes of
RAM…!
Just as we feel
the need to UPGRADE OUR COMPUTERS or some of its components, there is also a
need for us KEEP EVALUATING AND UPGRADING THESE 4 AREAS OF OUR LIVES….
ü Evaluate
and improve upon your relationship atmosphere… both with God and man
ü Evaluate
and if possible improve upon your Health and general fitness… Health is Wealth
ü Evaluate
and improve upon how you acquire and manage your finances….
ü Evaluate
and improve upon your job or career…. Such as enriching your CV through
seminars.
NOW if I offered
you a Pentium 1 machine today…! In computer terms, you will simple tell me
that my gift is OUTDATED or NOT UP-TO-DATE…!
Today I am
challenging us all to EVALUATE AND UPDATE ourselves in our relationships, our health, our careers and our finances…!
Sometimes
when someone comes up to me with a machine like the above Pentium 1 machine for
operating system update or other updates, I simply advice that person to GET A
NEW AND UP TO DATE COMPUTER because the HARDWARE
cannot support current software…!
THE
GOOD NEWS about us as human beings is that we do not need to GET A NEW BODY…
God created and designed us to be able to UPGRADE TILL WE STOP BREATHING…!
We have an
ENDLESS RESERVOIR OF POTENTIALS, which we won’t be able to exhaust even till we
die…! God is ready to upgrade us
depending on how ready we are to be FORMATTED OR UPGRADED…!
Now how does God know
that we are ready for an upgrade…?
Through
the QUANTITY and QUALITY of the ADVERSITIES WE CAN OVERCOME
and the SPEED at which WE OVERCOME THEM…!
Every minute of our lives are
filled with adversities and challenges… In our relationships, our health, our
finances and our careers…!
Life is asking each one
of us…
WHAT ARE YOUR SPECIFICATIONS…..?
WE need to show our
ADVERSITIES what Our SPECIFICATIONS ARE…!
In Jeremiah 29:11 God
says: “I alone know the plans I have for
you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about
the future you hope for”
God is ever ready to
UPGRADE US FOR THE BETTER…… BUT ARE WE READY FOR UPGRADING….?
My suggestion is that
don’t be an OUT DATTED HUMAN BEING
In Jesus’ Name
Amen.
